2nd Annual May Door Decorating Contest

Due to the success of last year's event, the Heritage Committee is planning this year's 
May Door Decorating Contest.
This is an opportunity to make our town even more beautiful and possibly win a prize for it.
The date for judging will be May 11th. Registration will take place at the New Windsor Heritage Museum each Saturday in April and first Saturday in May 9:30 AM -12:00 PM. There is a fee of $5.00 to enter the contest.

Door Decorating Contest Rules

1.   Prizes -    1st = $100.00,      2nd = $50.00,     3rd = $25.00
2.   Judging - Saturday, 11 May 2013 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, rain or shine.
3.   Contest Area - Town of New Windsor, Blue Ridge Manor, Atlee Ridge,   Springdale Village, and New Windsor Heights.
4.   Registration - At the NWHC Museum every Saturday in April through May 4th, 2013 from 0900 – 1200 noon at 207 Main Street New Windsor, MD 21776.
5.   All entries will be photographed for judging.
6.   Door decoration must be hung on door and must be contained in the upper half of front door.  The door decoration has to be on the outside front door.  If there is an outside door (screen or porch door) in front of the main door it needs to be on the outside door for viewing.
7.   Check Colonial Williamsburg website for door decoration examples.
8.  Forms to hold the door decoration can be any shape and made out of any material such as metal, plastic, wood, etc.   All other parts of the door decoration must be made out of as close to all natural materials as possible such as flowers, fruit, vegetables, sticks, straw, greenery, etc.  Forms must be totally hidden by door decoration.  Wrapping the form in all natural material is a suggestion for hiding the form.
9.    All decisions made for prize money from the judges are final.
10.  New Windsor Heritage Committee has the right to post photos of the winning door decorations on their website in addition to displaying all door decoration photo entries in their museum.

Commemorate Carroll County's Role in the Civil War

2013 is when Carroll County will celebrate its role in the Civil War.
New Windsor was on one of the roads that led to Gettysburg in 1863 New Windsor Heritage is working with the Town of New Windsor for a wonderful Memorial Day celebration on May 26th A diary written by Maggie Mehring, a young student at Mrs. Kleefisch’s academy on High street, gives a first person account of troops marching through New Windsor on their way to Gettysburg.
